Cookie Policy
Last updated: 16 October 2026. What changed: the analytics choice now also covers Tamarly's own usage records for signed-in readers.
Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. Tamarly uses as few as it can, and none for advertising.
| Category | What it does | Examples | Consent needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keeps you signed in, secures forms, remembers your cookie choice, runs checkout | Session and security tokens, Stripe checkout, Cloudflare bot protection; the region cookie, which stores your broad region for 24 hours to decide whether to ask before analytics; the notice cookie (tamarly_notice), which remembers that you accepted the entry notice, so it is not shown on every visit | No |
| Preferences | Remembers theme, language and recently viewed pages | Local storage settings, including the persona you chose in Ask the Brain | No, unless local law requires |
| Analytics | Counts how features are used, in aggregate, to improve the product, and which campaign link brought a subscription. For signed-in readers, also records the pages and features you use, linked to your account, to help with your account (Privacy Policy, sections 1 and 2) | PostHog; the campaign tags of the link you followed (for example utm_source), kept 90 days and passed to Stripe with your checkout; Tamarly's own usage records (a visit identifier in session storage, records kept 180 days) | Yes, in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland; opt-out elsewhere |
| Video | Plays YouTube videos you choose to watch | YouTube player cookies, set by Google only after you press play | Loaded only when you press play |
| Advertising | Not used | None | Not applicable |
Your choices
Visitors from the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland see a banner with "Accept analytics" and "Reject analytics" given equal weight, and no analytics cookie is set before a choice. Everyone can change their choice at any time from the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. Browsers also let you block or delete cookies; blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop sign-in from working.
Tamarly honours Global Privacy Control signals as an opt-out of analytics. Signed-in readers can also turn usage records off in Account, Your data.
Third-party sites
Links to registers, regulators and data sources open their own sites, which set their own cookies under their own policies.
