How much does the PitchBook API cost in 2026?
PitchBook does not publish an API price. Morningstar told investors in August 2026 that Direct Data, its API and feed product, is priced separately by data volume, refresh frequency and technical specifications (Morningstar investor Q&A). Third parties report packages from about $70,000 a year.
What is PitchBook Direct Data?
Direct Data is PitchBook's way to deliver its data into your own systems by API or scheduled feed. PitchBook's help pages say you choose the data points you need for each company and how often they are fed into your internal system (PitchBook help). It is a separate product from the PitchBook platform seat that analysts log in to.
The product is material to PitchBook. In May 2025 Morningstar said Direct Data made up a high single-digit percentage of PitchBook segment revenue in 2024 (Morningstar).
How is the PitchBook API priced?
By volume and refresh, through a quote. Morningstar's August 2026 answer lists 3 pricing inputs: how much data you take, how often it refreshes and the technical specifications of delivery (Morningstar investor Q&A). No price list exists, so any figure you see is an estimate.
| Product | Reported or stated price | How access works | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| PitchBook platform | $12,000 to $70,000 a year | Seats, quote only | Prospeo |
| PitchBook Direct Data (API and feeds) | From about $70,000 a year, depending on use and entity scope | Priced by volume, refresh and specifications | Multiples, Morningstar |
| PitchBook Premium connector (Claude, ChatGPT and others) | No extra charge for paying subscribers, as of August 2026 | Requires a PitchBook license | Morningstar |
| PitchBook Essential connector | No PitchBook license needed; the AI platform pays PitchBook | Limited company and deal data, monthly limits | Morningstar, June 2026 |
Prices above are reported by third parties, several of which sell competing tools. Check current terms with each vendor.
Do you need a PitchBook license to buy the API?
No, according to Morningstar. Its August 2026 answer says Direct Data does not require a platform license, though many Direct Data clients hold one because some of PitchBook's proprietary content is only on the platform (Morningstar investor Q&A). Some comparison sites still say a platform license is required (Multiples), so ask sales to confirm in writing.
Is the PitchBook connector for Claude and ChatGPT included?
Yes, for subscribers, at least for now. Morningstar says paying PitchBook subscribers can reach PitchBook data through premium connectors in platforms such as Claude and ChatGPT at no additional charge, and that it could price this separately later (Morningstar investor Q&A). The connectors went live in ChatGPT in December 2025 (Business Wire) and in Perplexity in May 2026 (Morningstar).
About 17% of PitchBook client accounts had used the connector by June 2026 (Morningstar, June 2026). Our guide on researching private companies with Claude explains how these connectors work.
Will PitchBook API pricing change?
It may. In August 2026 Morningstar said it is evaluating a more modular way to package PitchBook. It is piloting connector-only seats, which still need at least 1 full platform license, and testing a direct MCP service with consumption pricing, where fees follow the data used (Morningstar investor Q&A). If you sign a multi-year Direct Data deal now, ask how a move to consumption pricing would affect renewal.
When should you pay for PitchBook Direct Data?
Pay for it when PitchBook's own content, such as funding rounds with investors, valuations, fund performance and LP data, has to flow into a CRM, a model or a product every day. Those datasets are hard to rebuild from public records. If your team already holds platform seats and mainly wants AI access, start with the connector, which costs nothing extra today. Where does Tamarly Intelligence fit?
Tamarly Intelligence is Tamarly's research platform on companies, funds, countries and markets, built from official filings and open data. Its MCP server at https://app.tamarly.ai/api/mcp gives Claude and ChatGPT 9 read-only tools, including company profiles with Form D notices and merger filings, the Form D venture radar, deals, fund holdings and country risk, each answer with source links. The connector is included in every plan: Free covers search and economic series, Level 2 at $145 a month adds companies, funds, deals and country risk, and Level 3 at $399 a month adds the venture radar.
Tamarly also offers personal API keys on its main routes, with 1,200 calls an hour per account and documentation at /developers. It draws only on free, open sources such as SEC EDGAR, so it has no investor names on private rounds, no valuations and no fund performance data.

How much is PitchBook Direct Data a year?
